To the south-west of Scamander and via historic St Marys is the Fingal Valley and Evercreech Forest Reserve near Mathinna. Home to magnificent strands of White Gums known as the “White Knights” – which at around 90 metres in height are Australia’s tallest white gums. A 10 minute return walk (or steeper 20 minute circuit walk) leads to the ‘White Knights’. Another beautiful walk includes the Evercreech Falls, this track is approximately 45 minutes return. From Evercreech it’s 16 kilometres to Mathinnia Falls Forest Reserve, which features four magnificent waterfalls each cascading more than 17 metres. The beautiful cascades, set amid bushlands peppered with huge tree ferns, can be easily reached, a ten-minute stroll from the car park.
St Marys is a small township at the junction of the Tasman and Esk Highways, just 10 kilometres from the coast via St Marys Pass, nestled beneath the impressive St Patricks Head, offering a range of accommodation, a craft gallery, bakery, shops, supermarkets and a hotel. Further a field, Final and Avoca are charming inland townships with quaint heritage buildings and stunning landscape views.
